Faith Ministry Stories

Catching Up with Council – April 16, 2021

Posted by Jennifer Tolzmann on

The Faith Church Council met virtually on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, for the regularly scheduled monthly meeting. We discussed chapters 1 and 2 of the book The Post-Quarantine Church: Six Urgent Challenges and Opportunities That Will Determine the Future of Your Congregation. Discussion centered on opportunities to gather differently and better, along with how to seize the opportunity to reach out in the digital community. We will continue this discussion with 2 more chapters in May.

Old and New Business topics included:

  • Review of March financials. Thank you Faith for your continued generosity! Contributions also came in for the flower/decorating fund and the Abundance Campaign.
  • Update from the Sacred Settlement Development Team
    • Review of work to date: discussions with city, development of financial model and fundraising approach, congregational pulse survey, homeless ministry in the area, sponsored building tiny home for David.
    • Review of 3 big hurdles ahead: City and legislative process, fundraising, access to services and transportation needs.
    • Next Steps in education, advocacy and direct action
      • The team will meet again beginning in September to plan for a message to the congregation in January of 2022.
      • It is vital to have input from the congregation before making any further future plans.
  • Hospitality Discussion
    • Might Faith Break look different post-pandemic, with hospitality built in to the budget? Might teams be built to alternate serving and clean up? Stay tuned for ideas and ways to get involved.
    • Approved purchase of a new coffee maker so we are ready to gather when we can.
  • Congregational mailing to go out within the next 2 weeks. Watch for updates on the Abundance Campaign, work towards the Prairie project on the west side of the church, and celebrations of our ongoing work.

We are Easter People! Yes! Praise God for our staff and congregational members and their dedication and persistence in care for this church family, our community and the world!  Amen
