Advent Creation Care Tip #4: Responsible Festivity

Posted by Deacon Steve Arnold on December 12, 2022

The Christmas season has, at times, become the high festival of consumerism in the United States culture.  It is a time to be festive and it is a time to be responsible.  Here are some ideas for an eco-friendly holiday season:

  • Read: “12 Eco-friendly Holiday Decor Ideas” (https://www.forbes.com/home-improvement/living/eco-friendly-holiday-decorations/)
    • Make holiday decorations with items you gather from outdoors such as pine cones, tree branches, acorns, berries, and dried flowers.
  • Recycle your old holiday light strands (check with your recycling service or a hardware store) and replace with LED lighting. Try Solar LED lights outside.
  • Use a timer to turn off decorative lights at night.
  • Avoid purchasing plastics and tinsel. Instead, string garland out of popcorn and cranberries (which can then be taken outside for the birds to enjoy).
