Bible stories that model 'Led by the Spirit'

Posted by Lloyd Sather on June 30, 2019

In January 2019, the Faith congregation adopted a new mission statement:

Led by the Spirit to share God’s grace.

On Sunday, May 5, all were invited to engage in this mission so that it could inspire our shared ministry. Pastor John opened with a reflection on “Led by the Spirit.” Then participants engaged in guided discussion around “Led by the Spirit.” Feedback was collected on sticky notes, and Deacon Nina summarized the discussion for the large group. The same format was followed for “to share God’s grace.”

This is the second of a seven-part series to share the results of that discussion.  Last week we reflected on what "Led by the Spirit" means to our congregation: kindness, love, comfort and encouragement.

How would you answer the question, "What stories from the Bible come to mind when you hear the phrase 'Led by the Spirit?'”  The response from those who attended the event was AMAZING!

Old Testament

Moses and the burning bush

Ruth and Naomi

Abraham leaves home

Jonah goes to Nineveh

Life of Jesus

Crucifixion

Jesus is tested in the wilderness

Mary and Joseph

Three wise men

Mary and Martha

Mary at the tomb

Jesus Teaching

Good Samaritan

Sinless cast the first stone

Compassion for the prostitute

Acts of the Apostles

Saul's conversion

Pentecost

Philip and the Ethiopian

More than just words of servant-hood, Faith Lutheran members link their actions to the Word of God in their recall of Bible stories that model these actions of kindness, love, comfort and encouragement.
