Parish Nurse: Rest and Relaxation
Why are rest and relaxation such hard work?
There are many different reasons why we often don't seem to be able to balance our work and rest in our lives. I think that sometimes our human condition seems more aligned with chaos than balance. I am no exception to this concept. For many of us, if we are not working, we may feel we are wasting time and energy. I also think our culture seems to value productivity.
Ways to work rest and relaxation into our lives:
- Practice deep breathing several times a day.
- Take a minute vacation by imagining you are in a favorite place.
- Make time each day for a walk inside or outside.
- Practice some form of exercise each day.
Jean's tip for a successful marriage:
"Don't ask your wife what time dinner is when she is out shoveling the driveway."
