Our Story

Faith Lutheran is “the big, small church in town” forming relationships with five different generations at the same time. We meet you where you are in life. Faith is a congregation where you can belt out Lutheran hymns and contemporary worship songs.  We do traditional stuff like baptisms, weddings, and funerals and also gatherings where we discuss current topics , dress up for Trunk or Treat and Mardi Gras parties.  We are a place where you can hear thoughtful sermons with theological depth and fun, zany children’s messages. We are relaxed and dressed up.  We wear robes, gowns, jeans and baseball caps. We are church like you remember and church for today.

We are invested in our community.  We are a church where Republicans and Democrats engage with each other and equally receive the radical grace of God.

For us, relationships matter. We gather around the altar to receive God's forgiveness and around tables to connect with one another over coffee and treats.  In everything, we remember that Christ is in our midst.

We've been around since 1888 and we will never stop evolving into God's church of the future.

Our History

Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church of Forest Lake began as the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1888 with Pastor Johannes Lundquist. Fifteen Swedish families and one Norwegian had settled in the area near the Scandinavian Cemetery and became the charter members of the church. The original church, built in 1892, burned in 1960 and was a total loss.

The present church was opened in 1962 and has been through several remodels and upgrades.
