Refugee Outreach Update
The Refugee Outreach Committee ended 2021 by providing $2025 worth of grocery gift cards to Afghan and other refugee families. What a blessing to be able to help with food insecurity! We also received the call for help with providing gloves and mittens to incoming Afghan families and promptly sent 98 pairs of brand-new ones in various sizes to help. And we made sure they were super warm. The grocery gift cards were such a hit that we were asked to send some more at this time, and we are providing an additional $500 to LSS for the cards.
Faith member Kathy Norquist was interested in our gift card project and brought the topic to her organization which is made up of educators from Family and Consumer Sciences and professionals from food or family-related businesses, some retired and some still working. In December they presented LSS with $4,828 in food gift cards and cash for refugee families in the Twin Cities area. Such generosity! These community partnerships between Faith and other groups can open new avenues for service to refugee families.
Thank you, Faith members, for your continued support for our Refugee Outreach program and our important mission of serving our refugee neighbors.
