The Power of Prayer

Posted by Jennifer Tolzmann on

Philippians 4:4-7

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

We are one month into a new decade. Are you looking for a way to provide a boost in your spiritual life? Consider all the ways you might engage with prayer and make a difference in your life and the lives of others. At Faith, there are a variety of ways to get started.

  1. Watch the weekly bulletin for two (2) lists of individuals. One of the lists invites you to pray for the peace, happiness, and well being of 20 members of our congregation. Throughout the year all members of Faith will be included in this list. The other list includes the names of congregational members and friends who have requested specific prayers due to needs or challenges.
  2. Join the Tuesday morning Intercessory Prayer group that meets in the Chapel at 8:30 a.m. These dedicated individuals pray for the lists noted above, as well as specific requests that come in through Sunday services.
  3. Join the email Prayer Chain. This group receives prayer requests that are gathered via Sunday services, our Faith website, or specific requests to the church office. The emailed requests arrive in your inbox, “prayer ready”, and you are invited to pray, in the comfort of your own space, for those in need.
  4. Explore the variety of ways there are to pray by taking time to join in Prayer Lab Watch the weekly e-news or bulletin for dates/times of specific activities, or stop by the Faith Chapel anytime to find self-guided resources on the month’s theme.

If you have questions about any of these opportunities contact the church office and they’ll connect you to someone who can help you become engaged and informed. There is no special training required. All you need is a willingness to talk to God in a way that is comfortable for you. Prayer benefits those who are prayed for, as well as those who do the praying. Join in this powerful form of stewardship and service!
